Speeding Ticket

Anyone have any ideas how much a person's car insurance will go up if they got a 4 point speeding ticket - in NJ? The person already has 2 points.

I believe my best advice would be "Start taking the bus."

It was a huge mistake for them to just let those first two points sit on their license...the first time you get a ticket that might affect your insurance rates, you beg, sob, piss your pants, ANYTHING to get traffic school, community service, or anything that will keep the points off the license and the insurance company unaware.
Their second mistake was continuing to speed with points on their license.

Depending on the insurance company, they might try dropping them...

Try going to geico.com or another insurance website and getting two quotes, one with 2 points on the license and one with 6. Make sure you don't give them a real name and certainly not a SS#.

LOL, New Jersey is bad enough for insurance. Your "friend" might have to start selling himself to pay for car insurance.

From my experience, most insurance companies do not look at your driving record unless they have a reason to OR they are doing a random audit. I would recommend going to court and see if you can get th speed/points reduced. By going to court, unless you are a total jerk, the violation "terms" can only get better--not worse.

Overall though, invest in a GOOD radar detector or slow it down.

I agree with altonb1, I worked in insurance for 16 yrs and they do not pull an MVR record each year for every person.
If you give them a reason to pull it, they will
:> changing vehicles often, have any claims against you from another driver, have to get any financial responsability forms from them, pay your bill late, possibly even changing address very often.

Theres a good chance that you can go to court, get whatever they offer you (hopefully less than the ticket) and then pay your bill each time it comes (better yet, pay in full 1x a year) and they may not pull an report on you.
I got by 5 yrs with a DWI without them knowing

In some places, now;
Motor vehicle automatically sends an email
when your convicted of a traffic offense, and or DWI to your insurance company.

I suggest taking Defensive Driving class as Soon as you can,
like Yesterday.

Just be careful if you get a radar detector that you don't drive through a state in which it is illegal to have them.

The US seems to be quite Bigbrother like. Why would a speeding ticket be of any business to your insurance.

Here your insurance goes up when you use the insurance, as in: cause an accident...

Big business owns the White House and Congress. They raise our rates because no one tells them they can't.
