The point about fighting the speeding ticket.... according to her she was going the speed of traffic, and there were semis packed in the right lane so there was no way for her to see the speed limit change, after the first sign she was nailed, it was a trap and there was no way for her to know the change of speed limit, hence wanting to fight it.
That isn't an excuse for speeding, no matter which way you cut it. The only angle you could use is to find out if she was hit by the radar after the SECOND speed limit sign or before it. If she was hit before it and was at least in the process of breaking she may have a case, otherwise she shouldn't even waste her time explaining the situation because they really don't care.

Did this happen in western NY? Between toll barriers where the speed limit is 55? That area is 55 because it is a heavily populated residential area. I live in WNY, I've received a good amount of tickets in the area. I have plenty of experience with NY state traffic court.

I currently have a ticket pending in central NY that I must travel to attend court. The reality in this situation is that the court sets the date she is to appear, they arn't going to bend their process around her because she lives out of state and is a college student. She broke the law, now she has one of two or three choices; Plead guilty, pay the fine and take the points or she can plead not guilty and appear to court herself on a date the court sets or she can hire an attorney, plead not guilty and have the lawyer appear on her behalf on the date the court sets.
The process is very cut and dry, she really doesn't have many other options.
