Speeding in gated communities

My parents live in a gated community in Daytona Beach. There is a long, relatively straight road that is set at 30mph. This seems really slow, I usually go 40 or 45. My understanding is that the city does not have jurisdiction over gated communities because of the gate. When I say gate, it's guard shack and the whole nine yards. If I speed and get caught, can they actually give me a valid ticket?

Unless I missed the news I don't think gated communities have sovereignty....

I have heard the fact the gate is there means it's not a public road. How can you get in trouble for speeding on a private road?

Well, the residents of the community might get pissed and call security on you. Of course you would be gone by the time they got there...but still, they could grab your license plate number and do something about it...lots of ways to report that stuff.

Did you sign the HOA, OP? If not, then I'd think twice about possibly dragging your parents into court because you got a little impatient.

Doesn't matter where you speed, unless it's on your own property...the cops can nail you. Gated community is still a residential area, and they still have speed limits.

Yeah, we are renting in a gated community. We aren't allowed to park on the sidewalk unless our driveway is full. If our lawn isn't mowed weekly, we get a letter on our door and our landlords are notified. And there are speed bumps every 50 feet. I hate HOAs...
But at least the rent is cheap and we have a community pool and basketball court.

Its hard to make a moving violation stick in most shopping centers because they are not city engineer public roads. The stop signs, lane markings.. all that. I think about the only thing they can get you on is speeding.

There is a reason the speed is limit is set where it is. Has it occurred to you that there might be limits for the safety of the children who live in the community? Wait til your pompous arse hits a kid, then you can explain to the judge why you think the speed limit is too low. :shocked:
