Speed up USB acquisition time

I have a KVM switch with two computers. My mouse and keyboard are on the switch. I press the "scroll lock button twice" to switch to the second monitor. The problem is that it takes time for either computers to re-aquire the new keyboard. Sometimes it's real quick (1 - 2 seconds). Other times it's 4 maybe 6 seconds. Are there any OS settings to speed up USB acquisition time?

These are relatively new computers. Running XP.

Increase the polling rate for USB devices. There is a registry hack well known if you search google it should turn up.

Haha - are you using a Raritan KVM? I use one at work and your description matches just 2 of the lovely quirks which has my colleagues remarking about the outstanding experience which is the Paragon II system.

We also use Synergy http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ for one part of our system (very fancy flight simulator) and that seems to work well enough between two computers. Response is instant - just drive your mouse to the other monitor to use that computer - not a KVM system; as they say it is a KM system.
