Speed up copies between two remote network shares

I have an HTPC running Windows 7 Home. I regularly want to move large files on it via network shares from my main workstation, but copying from Share A to Share B (both on the HTPC) is slow because as I understand it, as I am doing this from my remote workstation, the files have to be transferred across the network rather than simply 'staying local' on the HTPC. In quick testing the difference seems 33MB/s vs 80MB/s.

Is there a way, other than RDP or logging into the HTPC physically, to make these transfer happen faster?
