Speed slower with Router?

I am using Rogers cable modem, without the router, I can get 2.5/2.6Mbits, but if I put my computer behind a SMC WABR7004 wireless route (use network cable, not wireless), the speed is 900Kbits per second. That is way slow....

Anyone have the same router? or SMC router?

Routers have latency but since you're getting you speeds from an internet connection you're speeds are subject to all the hops along the way and possible congestion etc. and it's really not a good test.

so how can I do a good test?

Hey,

I'm having almost the same exact problem your having.
And with an SMC Barricade Router as well.SMC7004BR

But the funny thing is,everything was running smooth for months and months with no problems.but then it seems after the RR connection came back up after it was down for a few hours,i noticed my Pings jumping over 100.when it stayed around 40 for months and months.

Then i decided to check my speeds at Speakeasy and noticed another problem.
I was getting 3m/500 (Down/Up) before, but now it was only showing around 1M/120.

Just seems odd everything was working fine for a long time.
then out of the blue this happens.

I believe its either the Cable Modem went bad somehow and is not able to support 2 PC's,or perhaps the Router went bad.

Heres a link on my Post:

If you manage to figure the problem out,let me know.

I have the SMC7004AWBR here, and I've loaded the latest firmware from the SMC site. I see no measurable difference between what I get with the modem directly connected and with the router in use. FWIW, I've experimented with a number of routers here, and I've yet to see one that has a noticeable effect on throughput, though I haven't measured as carefully as I have with mine. 😀

Take a look at the Router's MTU (if there is one on this particular model) setting make sure it is 1500.

Any chance of this setting being on the older SMC7004BR Router? (MTU)

Not sure what that is.
But i did reset all my Router settings after noticing the slow down at first.
