Speed problems

I have a problem. Don´t speak English very good.

My other problem is my computer.

My computer is a self made AMD k6.2 400 MhZ on a Asus P5A Supersocket 7 Motherboard. 96 Mb PC100 SDRAM.
My Hardisk is 13 Gb running on 5200 Rpm.
My Grafik´card is a Voodoo 3 2000 AGP
My CD-rom is a E-IDE 48X/AKU.
My modem is a Lasat Speed 2 ISDN.

My computer have resendtly running smoothly, but now it seems to die, slowly. When I start it up, it runs OK, but again it slowly going dead.

I been looking in Microsoft System information, and found this under: Komponent / Units with problems:

This unit is not present, dosn´t work, or all drivers is not installed.

I have tryed severel repair shops, with a lot of money to spend all ready. But the fun must end some time.

Depending on the programs you're running, you could be running low on resource stacks. When this happens, OS slows down and eventually stalls. Run Resource Meter in background, and occasionally check resource levels. When either starts to drop below 50%, everything slows up. Only way to recover resources is to reboot the computer.

I´m always just running 1 program at the time. In this case I run Internet Explorer.

In the back ground I run Norton Antivirus, and a small program called: @guard.

My system resources lays stady on 80%, but any way, my computer got slower and slower, until it dies.

Norton Antivirus could be the reason for the slowdown here, so try exiting it and see if the speed gets better.

What does "@guard" do?

How often do you re-boot your system and which version of win98 are you running?

I'm not sure whats wrong - If it gets to be unbearably slow, I would suggest backing up all your critical files and then reinstalling windows. My best friend's Celery was going nuts so he reinstalled windows and it was fine. This is a Last Resort however.

go to run then type msconfig
go to system.ini
go to vcache
add line "maxfilecache=8192"

also in the msconfig section and go to the "startup" part

uncheck the programs that you know that you don't use.

this should solve some of the problems you may have some that you are not aware of either.
