Speed penalty from connecting a Sata 3.0 drive to 2.0 connection?

I have a VelociRaptor SATAIII connected to an on-board SATAII port how much of a speed penalty will I get? Will the drive just operate at the SATAII speeds, in other words, in general terms am I really using just half of my drives "brandwidth"?

I was wondering how much of a real-life benefit by would notice if I were to buy a SATAIII card and plug the drive into that?

Thanks!

the v-raptor's speed doesn't saturate the sata2 chipset anyways.. so it's a moot point.

Only place a sata3 card will help is with burst speeds from the drives cache. Hardly worth the upgrade unless you have 8 of them combined in raid for a cumulative effect. A bit dramatic there.. but I'm guessing that you get the point.

Thanks! Does the board have a "karma" or "thanks "feature I can use to thank you?
