Speed control - Core 2 Duo notebook?

I used to have an Athlon 64 laptop; I used a great program called RMClock to auto-manage processor speed as needed. I am upgrading to a Core 2 Duo notebook next week; is software like that still necessary or can you configure the system to run how you want on A/C power and battery?

i dont think software is necessary

you just set the power requirements thing (windows power manager in control panel) and i think the cpu and chipset do the rest. i think intel call it enhanced speed step.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to it 🙂 Got a great deal on it from Gateway, big fan of their laptops. I wasn't impressed with Window's management of processor speed before, which is why I was using RMClock. It lets you set the processor speed at minimum, maximum, or auto depending on load, as well as lets you set custom profiles for when it's on A/C power and battery. I checked and it's only updated for the Yonah so far, so I will see how it works using the stock Windows setup and if I don't like it, just wait for the next update.

Got the laptop in today. Has a 2ghz T7200 Merom chip inside. Gateway put a Centrino sticker on it, memtest86+ calls it a Conroe, and Belarc thinks its a Pentium 3, lol. It is really cruising through the memory tests...I usually leave computers on overnight to run memtest86+, and if they pass 6 tests I declare the ram good. It takes less than 20 minutes per test on this machine :Q At this rate I will only have to wait 2 hours before finishing the memory test. Nice! 🙂
