Hit a cab yesterday that laneshifted into my lane after he just pulled out from a side street.

The car will probably be totaled(frame and engine damage) but the air bags didn't deploy...I was thinking I was going 40 mph or so and the cab 5..

its not the speed its the force of the impact and the way your car is hit...only headons or front end damage makes airbags deploy because the force of the car is going such that youd be flying into the steering wheel...

And depending on how "modern" the SRS system is, there are even more factors weighing in. The computer does some astoundingly fast calculations to decide whether or not to deploy the airbags.

Glad you are OK.

When I was in truck that flipped and rolled from tire blowout, airbag did not deploy either. Glad it didn't, I had enough to deal with.

Sounds like you didn't hit the Cab squarely enough in the front for the sensors to kick in.

Unfortunately I bet your insurance company will say it is your fault like Geico did with me.

You should've been able to send a forcefield out from your eyes diverting that Cab from jumping out in front of you just like I should've been able to muster beyond God-like powers and stop the tire from shredding and fishtailing the truck all over the asphalt.

There has to be more to this story!

Those airbags come out really fast too. I know 2 people that got burns on their arms from them deploying.
