They should have stated >> 50% perf/W it seems.
That could have been for N33. ;)
With supposedly 2x better performance and 375W TBP, we are looking at 75-80% better efficiency than RX6950XT.

Yeah but length is alwasy a concern too as it seems i will need to get a new case as 300mm is the absolute max length I can use and only with top facing connectors. Case is old but just throwing away a tons of steel for more space is kind of a waste.

The 6950 is 267mm in length. The card shown here is a bit longer. Hard to tell if its over 300, but it might just fit.

The design itself looks good. I nice iterative improvement.

So who is going to buy them when there is no crypto demand. The economy is in a tailspin. The computer market is down 10% worldwide. I do not understand the GPU market today. RDNA3 look really good. But I do not get the economics of AMD and Nvidia in the GPU segment. Are they cooking the books in their quarterly financials moving forward?

I will consider buying one if it uses less power than my 3090 while being faster in both raster and RT performance. Provided it fits in my case, of course.

Looks like a ceiling of 375W. My 3090 has pulled as much as 450W in the past. Recent vBIOS updates pulled that number back to 400W. Going from 400W->350W would help make up for Zen 4 consuming more power. My 750W PSU would be able to breath easier lol.

This card is not going to be a 375 watt card.

Max 350watts. I am guessing 335watts.

An OEM design is not going to use it's max rated power spec for their cable design as it's average power usage. People need to start reeling in their performance expectations for this card.

AMD is claiming greater than 1.5x performance per watt. Not 2x.

I regret not buying the RX5700 (RDNA1) for $300 back in 2019.

When the RDNA2 products were released. An AMD executive was taking bets on the supply and availability of the GPU's from AMD. Implying they would have no trouble with supply. Nvidia said there was a serious supply side issue. Nvidia had more GPU's available than AMD throughout the last generation of GPU's.

So I look at pricing of the 40 series and RDNA 3 GPU's. They are saying the 4080 will be $1199. That is totally out of line with the crypto collapse and the world economic collapse. The 1080 was $599 MSRP and the 2080 was $699 MSRP. I am pointing out GPU pricing before the crypto market (total scam by the way) influenced pricing.

OK so as an example, I took a look at the 4090 Compubase review and looked at the biggest gap between 450 and 350 W for the 4090. That was CoD Vanguard.

If you combine the results together you get this:

139 - 4090 (Unlimited Power, 24 gbps memory)
130 - 4090
121 - 4090 (350 W PL)
113 - 4090 (300 W PL)
69 - 6900 XT Ref

Wanna guess what the 7900 XTX would get?

Moore's Law wasn't dead then though. Ampere was the last cheap node GPU.

>125 would be my guess. I think RDNA 3 can match, if not exceed, Ada's power efficiency at 350W. Mind you, 125 is only 1.8x the 6900XT. 1.8x the 6950XT likely gets you >130.

I must correct my previous calculations.
Graymon55 claims 2x better performance in synthetic benchmarks, but that's likely against 6900XT. Twitter
That's only 87% higher performance than 6950XT, instead of 100% I previously used.

335W then It has 87% higher perf/W than 6950XT.
335W then It has 79% higher perf/W than 6900XT.

350W then It has 83% higher perf/W than 6950XT.
350W then It has 71% higher perf/W than 6900XT.

375W then It has 67% higher perf/W than 6950XT.
375W then It has 60% higher perf/W than 6900XT.
Now It looks more realistic.

So where are all the RTX 4090s?
OOS everywhere.
I guess those people buying it didn't hear about the recession.
The cards at the top will sell well if the performance delivers

In case you werent aware, top tier cards are not produced in same volumes as lower tier cards. There were not that many 4090s produced initially. Therefore easy for a new, just released flagship product to go out of stock.

Awesome summary. I'm particularly curious about what exactly is the Ray Arbiter stuff that was mentioned in the replies. Seems like it hints at some potentially massive additions to the RT hardware acceleration.

Something I don't really see anyone discussing is the return of the XTX moniker. I think that alone denotes that AMD has a winner on its hands.

After the absolute disaster that was the 2900XT DAAMIT completely scrapped the 2900XTX launch and has never revived the XTX moniker for its consumer line since.

Part of me thinks this might actually be a sort of unspoken shanty at DAAMIT, that the XTX moniker was either cursed or never to be used until they felt like they had a card that could live up to the name. Otherwise I see no reason for XTX to literally disappear from the product stack for 15 years and reappear now unless AMD feels that the 7900XTX is worthy.
