Question Speculation: RDNA2 + CDNA Architectures thread

All die sizes are within 5mm^2. The poster here has been right on some things in the past afaik, and to his credit was the first to saying 505mm^2 for Navi21, which other people have backed up. Even still though, take the following with a pich of salt.

Navi21 - 505mm^2

We can go back to the RDNA3 analogy if you want: 3+ year old architecture, the drivers are 101% mature by now. Developers are well aware of them by now. Why continue with game ready drivers?

Very little reason. If you don't install the game ready drivers the RDNA3 cards will work just fine.

The game ready drivers are mostly to add FSR4 support, which RDNA3 currently don't have.

It was AMD themselves who first stated RDNA1 and 2 GPUs would be left out of game optimizations, not people.

Game optimisations is a small part of support.

AMD said they weren't doing game optimisations and despite people believing that they now backtracked they won't do them and no one else will be the wiser.

It seems people prefer to be deceived instead of understanding how thing works

How will you know?
The 6800xt got 63 FPS instead of 65 FPS at 1080p high?

That is the game optimisation 3%+ extra performance.

The game will work or it is a bug that is part of general bug fixes.

AMD has been doing this silently since the launch of the RX 9070xt.

The RDNA 2 has not been getting driver improvements while on the other hand, Nvidia has been providing update so cards perform as expected.

Below is the RTX 4070 review results. Look at the position of the RTX 4070 fe vs the 6800xt results.



Now look at more recent results. The 4070 is beating the 6800xt comfortably. The 6700xt is also the same speed as a RTX 3060ti when it used to be faster even though the rtx 3060 ti 8gb of memory should be limiting it at this point thus the difference show be bigger now.



Event the 7000 series is most recently taken a hit if you look at two recent releases.

In the outerworlds 2, the rx 9070xt is 27 percent faster than a rx 7900 xtx.

Oddly enough it seems today Blackwell is having more issues than lovelace. Lovelace has been getting all the driver love. Lovelace has gained ground, particularly vs the rx 7000 series. The regular rx 4080 is as fast as a 7900 xtx if not faster and the regular 4070 is faster than a 7800xt.

- Couldn't this just be an artifact of more engines using RT by default? No amount of driver love is going to make RDNA2 suck less at RTRT workloads...

That computerbase.de comparisons are done only raster performance. They have separate comparisons for RT performance, hence the performance rasterizer.

There's no reason to believe that this has anything to do with drivers in particular. The newer games that are being benchmarked now might simply perform better on Nvidia's GPUs for various reasons.
