I will have at least one 3090 at first release if possible. My problem is have the electricity available to USE it.Someone could be the new Anandtech F@H king with just
2 or 3 of these 3090's

I got my 1080ti on release day from Nvidia. Hoping to do the same here, the only question is 3080 or 3090Be prepared to pay the price for these. I can see the 3090 at 1,500-1,600 hundred
unless you buy from Nvidia. And the 3080 will be sold out the first day, going for 800
to 850 unless you buy from Nvidia.

If I didn't want to 8-12 million ppd of the 3090, I would be all over the sub $500 2080TI's, they do 304 million ppd. But they have not dropped yet in price. Still $700 (buy it now, I am not a bidder, too much stress)Would it make any sense to buy RTX 20x0 cards right now specifically for distributed computing? The resale value of 2080ti's seemed to drop ~30% when the 3090 information was released, so they're almost within the amount I'd be willing to spend on a video card. 1080ti's are still holding their value surprisingly well.
I'm seeing $550 as the low end price on various non ebay sites except for very rare ones under $500 that are snatched up immediately. I've done 'best offer' on ebay and sent offers of $450 for a bunch of 2080 ti's and all were declined. If I didn't want to 8-12 million ppd of the 3090, I would be all over the sub $500 2080TI's, they do 304 million ppd. I wish I could type what I really think about miners... Those <redacted myself> miners need to jump off a cliff !!! The rest of the world can't function normally with them around. Normal people have rights, and by their actions, they are violating our rights. (indirectly)Tom's Hardware speculates that cryptomining could raise prices again.

Buying limited-availability luxury goods is certainly not a "right".Normal people have rights, and by their actions, they are violating our rights. (indirectly)
If its like last time. the miners bought up virtually all of the video cards, and due to supply and demand, the prices skyrocketed and availability was almost non-existant. Do you blame the MFG'ers for not predicting this ? and taking 3 months to up production, since it was not in their plan ? They are supposed to have a crystal ball, and know everything ?Buying limited-availability luxury goods is certainly not a "right".
Edit: And I would think, that by funding R&D into future cards / architectures, that GPU miners are doing people like yourself that do F@H a favor. If there were only Folders buying GPUs, I think that they would be priced a LOT higher than they are, LOL.
Lack of availability is on the mfg's, not the miners.
Edit: Not that I'm hating on you, for hating on miners. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But honestly, it's not fair to blame one particular group of GPU users, for issues that are largely caused by the mfg.
What if "Gamers" blamed "Folders" for GPU shortages? Would that be fair? Think about it.
And then, what about people that Game, Fold, and Mine in their spare time, to pay for their other two hobbies with the GPU? That seems like a reasonable thing to do to me, if it will make you some money, and make the card free after 1-2-3 years.
Edit: I admit, most "serious miners" (excluding combo/hobby miners, like I just mentioned above), are in it for pretty-much "just the money", and you could probably accurately call them greedy, in some sense. But in another sense, if the mfg of the cards is willing to sell those cards "in bulk" to those "greedy" customers, rather than implement a one card per customer scheme (in cases of limited production capacity), then that's not on the miners', that's on the mfg and retailer.
Since these are based, apparently (?) on Samsung's 8N process, they shouldn't compete with wafers @ TSMC, so Zen3 and Renoir production is safe, I guess, along with "Big Navi".
