Speculate on price changes

I'm needing a new computer (The hard drive on my Athlon XP 2400+ build died) and I was wondering how much money I could save on a new mid-range gaming machine if I waited until DX10 cards and quad core CPUs came out.

I'm also hoping DDR2 prices will come down by then

these are the major contention points I'm trying to decide on:

video: 7950GT / X1900XT(256) / X1900XT
CPU: E6300 / E6400 / E6600 (is the larger cache worth it?)
RAM: 2x1024 667 / 2x1024 800

Wait, the hard drive died so you need a new computer? 😛

That sounds like a person having a tire go flat and so he buys a new car or something.

oops, my bad. My 'proper forum search' algorithm runs from the bottom up, as more specialized forums are usually at the bottom.

@AgaBoogaBoo Yeah, I know. But I've been planning to get a new computer anyway for quite sometime. This was just a better excuse than "I want a shinier toy"

That's what I said when I started posting in OT, now I have 21k+ posts.

you need a new hard drive....

why are you worried about the price of RAM?

buy a new hard drive, and replace the rest when you really need the speed.
