I'm new to the forum too and also looking around for a monitor. I'm filtering my search based on inputs: I need Analogue (HD15), DVI-D and a video out (S Video or composite video). After a few days of searching, I came across the 19" Sceptre on NewEgg for $415
Sceptre X9g-Gamer 19 inch 1280x1024 12ms S-Video/RCA LCD Black. TigerDirect has better deal AR. Stats check out. Fast 12ms response time is a big plus. Anandtech has a good buyers guide for 19" LCDs

Based on their guide, the important features check out. Haven't seen it in stores though. Only thing that worries me is the 1 year warranty (3 year is industry standard), but apparently they provide lifetime tech support, so you have support even after the warranty expires.

If you're in the market for a monitor with a 16ms response time, check out the Dell 2005FPW
thread It has a 16:10 aspect ratio (very nice for movies), All the inputs I'm looking for and it's bright, no ghosting from what I hear. Price is steep at $749, but check the hot deals forum for regular 15-30% discounts on Dell monitors. I'm leaning towards the Sceptre because of the price and feature set, but I haven't read enough reviews/info about quality of the monitor.
