Anyone knows the power rating of the power supply on my dell 8300? The model no. reads "NPS-305BB A". Also on the label it days output 305W max....combined power 150W. Is it 305W or 150W psu? Thx

I cannot directly answer your question, but I think I know why you're asking...so I'll offer some free advice. :)

It may LOOK like a standard ATX powersuppy....ordinary looking ATX connector, but it's not. Dell uses proprietary power supplies. The pinouts...wires from the PS to the 20-pin ATX connector are different than a standard ATX powersupply.

Using the Dell PS in a yet-to-be-built-by-you computer is a very bad idea. At best, you'll blow the PS to pieces. At worst, you'll also fry all your brand-new parts. :Q <---you when you "release the smoke" from your new stuff!

Spend the money and buy an Antec Trupower 430...more than enough juice for anything you could throw at it.\

Good luck. :)

The PSUs used in the Dell Dimension 8300 are standard ATX and are not proprietary. The 150W probably refers to the combined wattage of the 3.3V and 5V rails. Dell PSUs are typically very good, and the 305W will easily handle everything you can install into the 8300.

I agree with Accord99. I've swapped out a PS until out of my Dell and put it in one of my new rigs that I was working on (long story on why I did this) and it worked just fine for a month until my replacment came in then I changed it back. No problems with either PS.

Really? Hmm....I'd like to see official documentation on that.

Not doubting you guys' experiences w/them; in my experiences, Dell powersupplies are proprietary. I have personally witnessed one smoked motherboard. One was enough. :Q

It depends on the system.. They all use 20pin molex, however the DellATX PSU's are wired differently and also have a seperate dongle.
