Specifications for mech pencil lead?

I measured 0.5mm lead to be 0.56mm and 0.7mm lead to be 0.70mm even.
I would have thought it would be smaller than rated mm so it would go through the hole, but it is bigger.

does anyone have a specification for different size pencil lead to the hundredth, or preferebly thousandth of a milimeter?

i can mic mine tomorrow in the mech. eng. lab. but seems like you could find it on the web check out the manufactures pages.

Yeah, I'm not sure what you would want out of these measurements. They probably have a generous tolerance on the leads. Perhaps if you wrote to one of the major lead manufacturer's asking for the dimensions and tolerances they would tell you. Maybe make the excuse that you are doing a project where you are designing and fabbing a mechanical pencil (though I can't think of any other reason why you would want this information).
