Specialized Rockhopper....Mountain bikers get in here.

I have been borrowing and renting bikes for the past couple of months and have decided to buy a mountain bike. I rode a couple of bikes today and liked the Specialized Rockhopper. It has deore components and seemed pretty nice. I am pretty much an entry level mountain biker so does this seem like a good choice? If not I am looking around the $450 range and what other bikes do you recommend?
 
IMO, if you like and you can afford it then in that price range I wouldn't worry about other bikes.

The real important part is whether you're actually gonna get out and get some exercise and have some fun!

The Rockhopper is a fine bike.
