Special Subscription 1-email feature?

Not sure if this is even possible....

Subscription emails for specific thread sent only once, the first time someone replies... subsequent replies do not initiate an email to you ... until you log in and view the thread ... then it would be reset.

this way less emails would have to be sent

any chance this is viable? how about as just an option? (wouldn't it decrease used bandwidth?)
