When I think back to what I was doing, where I lived,etc. when I was 10 id like to think that yeah i would have had better sense. To be totally honest though I don't think 10yr olds today are quite as street savvy as 10yr olds were back then. I'm sure the same statement applies to a greater degree as you go further and further back in time.

And I'm not trying to blame kids for anything here. Just wanted to get that part out of the way before someone decides to go down that road.

you seem to be comparing american kids to desi kids. desi kids are much smarter by the age of 10. 4.0 gpa, makes tea at home, works in sweat shops, etc. they're good at using common sense. you have to remember that the average american kid is choking on legos or shooting his eye out with a pellet gun at that age.

The teacher is a trusted authority figure. He abused this trust and authority and manipulated children. Children are easy to manipulate if you are a trusted authority figure, this is why society punishes those who exploit their position of trust and authority over children. The practice of gaining children trust in order to use them and abuse them is known as "grooming" .

At that age kids have to rely on trusted adults (parents) to tell them who they can and can't trust. There are guidelines of course, and behavior that is clearly off limits, but you can't expect an 8 year old to understand the nuances of adult sexuality. It's clear that if the teacher has his hand down your pants something is wrong, but a tasting game? That's much more gray.

Anyone who suggests the kids are gullible or somehow at fault is simply living in a fantasy world.

At 7-10 kids are told to respect and do what the teacher says. Who would think a teacher would make them drink semen? What kid would know that its wrong to drink semen? they were told its a special drink.
