Special 1394 Cable

I have an Antec case that has a front panel firewire port. The cable attached does not have a standard 1394 plug (like lian li cases do), rather, they provide the 6 individual wires. This design, obviously is good for motherboards with 1394 headers, which mine does not.

I have a 1394 card (pyro) with 2 external and one internal connection. The internal connection is a standard 6 wire firewire receptical.

Anyone have any ideas on how to make or purchase some sort connector to allow me to utilize the front port?

Looks like you'll have to wire up a connector. This gives you a guide . . . 1394

Thermaltake cases come with a rear backplane adapter that accepts a six pin block connector, and that has a short cable to plug into one of your rear 1394 ports.

I don't like using the front port - so I simply use a 1394 hub on my desktop. It is more convenient - my computer is on the floor under the desk. 🙂

i have an antec 1080 case (with the front firewire port) paired with an asus p4pe board with two firewire headers. could never get the front firewire port to work. read somewhere later that the firewire cables coming from the front port are actually reversed by mistake (i.e., tpa+ is really tpa- or something like that). not sure if this problem affects all antec cases with front firewire ports. anyway, just an fyi in case you do find that connector and still have trouble getting the port to work with your firewire card.

Thanks for the input. Might try to create my own connector or just go the hub route.

Perhaps you can get the pinout on your 1394 card from the manufacturer's tech support. That's what I did on my Audigy 2 1394 internal connector.
