Spec me a 24" gaming monitor for £250

Hey guys

Theres another thread on similar lines but its getting a little out of date. Does anybody have any suggestions for the best monitor out there for gaming at a budget of around £250?

Ive been using a 24" samsung tn panel until now but it packed up today so im in the market for a new one. Ill freely admit i dont really understand whether tn or ips are better for games, but I guess I need something with a fairly quick response time.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks.

Is 120htz really 'all that' for gaming? I only ask as i have no real interest in 3d at present so Im wondering what the fuss is about 120htz

Also, is it worth considering some of the ips panels out the like the dell ultrasharp?

120hz will display a more fluid image. From my personal experience the difference in fast paced games is noticeable even if the FPS is 60 or below, but the smoothness really kicks in once you get above 60fps. On a normal monitor, you'd be forced to use VSync to avoid image tearing above 60fps, and even that will not always rid you of the problem. A 120hz monitor can display all frames up to 120fps and it'll feel more like real life and less like a slide show.

The difference is noticeable on the desktop too, since it will update the position of the cursor and windows twice as often than a standard 60hz display.

Dell's IPS panels are definitely worth considering, the color reproduction and viewing angles are superior to TN panels. But they're not so great for fast paced games, the response time of IPS panels is still not quite as good as that of TN panels, especially 120hz ones.

What games are you planning to play?
