Speaking of smokers - how do you deal with a SO who smokes, but you don't?

I guess this is directed at people who started dating and moved in with a SO who smoked. Did you let them smoke in the house? Does it bother you?

You either deal with it or move on. Does this really need a thread?

I am sure there is an interesting discussion to be had on this topic, but this is ATOT and you are just going to get the smoking nazis say that they would dump his/her ass for smoking because it is disgusting blah blah blah etc... Then it is back to mom's basement for another WoW marathon...

I said I wouldn't date one at one time, but I did. In the grand scheme of things, it's nott a big hurdle IMHO (dating a smoker, not living with one).

My wife smoked for about 20 years but quit 6 years ago. It didn't bother me much because she smoked outside to keep the inside of the house from smelling like an ash tray. I was thrilled when she finally quit for good. My son and his girlfriend recently quit also. So, we now have a smoke free family. Couldn't be happier.

Nazis? We just don't like being around people who smell like ashtrays.

I wouldn't date someone who didn't shower or wash their clothes either, and for similar reasons - I don't like being around people who smell like dirty clothes hampers.

While I do think that smoking is disgusting (and financially/physically detrimental) I really don't care what people do on their own. I just don't want to be around it.

I quit after 10 years of smoking. It's been close to three years since I quit. The girl I'm seeing now, the love of my life, and the woman I will marry smokes. I don't like it, but it's her decision, I don't love her any less for it. Of course I've known her for 5 years, back when I used to smoke too, so it's not like I just met her and she smokes, it's possible that if it happened that way I might be more turned off.

I can't really smell it on her though, and she most definetly doesn't taste like an ashtray when I kiss her so I guess I'm just lucky like that.

My wife smoked occasionally when we first met. It wasn't as big of a deal as what I thought it would be, but then again she wasn't smoking a cigarette every 5 minutes like some people I know. She quite probably a year after we were together.

Dating (for now) a SO that smokes. We actually live together. He smokes outside and no longer smokes cigarettes (that I know of). He's actually working on quitting and is behind schedule. He was supposed to quit before I moved in. Just have to get him to stop the Black & Mild's now, but I can deal with those alot easier than cigarettes.

I'm a non-smoker, but it really doesn't bother me... I actually like the smell. I don't think I'd have a problem living with a smoker, aside from the ethical problem inherent in letting someone you love drastically increase their odds of getting cancer right in front of you every day.

I quit smoking on the first of this month, and i think any girl i date from now on will have to be a non smoker. That way i can't relapse and bum a cigg after some booty :D

But yeah....i try to stay far away from ciggs for the time being.

I'm dating a girl who smokes, it didn't bother me at first, but now she likes smoking Djarum Blacks. Those things smell so much worse than a regular cig.

Well - currently it doesn't bother me. He smokes at his house, and in his car (and his roomates do the same). I never notice it when I'm over there, but when I get home and change, I can smell the smoke on my clothes.

My mom and sister are both smokers, and they both smoke outside. My mom always has, because she can't stand anything smelling like smoke in her house.

I was just thinking about the future, and how I'd approach him if the situation ever came to be (asking him to smoke outside of our house).

pretty much always dated smokers. never lived with a smoker who wanted to smoke within the house.
i think most people are generally understanding that smoking in a house sort of blows.
i dont care about my car...but my car is 10 years old. i bet if i had a new one, id care more.
and if you live with someone who is smoking or have buddies who come over and smoke, they will probably be decent about it. smoke outside and clean up after themselves.
