Very close! The 335i sure is a bargain. I wonder if that Dinan 335 had the LSD mod?

I personally dislike the way webrides produces these videos, but to each his own.

FWIW, the 335i is a real performance bargain, and can easily be tuned to be a truly stunning performer. A 335i Sport with some tuning and a brake upgrade is arguably a better car than an M3 as an overall package.

You're saying a modded car has the potential to be better than a more expensive car left bone stock? :)

Isn't that self-evident?

There's something to be said about stock, however. You can juice up a lot of cars up to and beyond stock Vette territory, but often at the cost of reliability and practicality.

Lots of the arguements in there are pretty moot (dealer markup is pretty much non-existant now) and with those mods your at a little over base price of an M3. Not to mention voiding of your warranty with those mods and lots of problems the 335i has on the track (going into limp mode from overheating). With more sensible modding its a better DD b/c honestly who needs all that power day to day? But as an overall package, the M3 is it and no matter how much modding you do to that 335i you can't capture the spirit of the M3.

With the HUGE difference in torque I would have thought the 335 would have taken the m3 in the straight line, but gearing probably has something to do with it.

agreed. although the nice thing about dinan mods is that it's all warrantied and guaranteed.

though theoretically no mod should void your warranty, unless it's specifically proven to cause a specific problem.

There's no question that the N54 engine in the 335i is very impressive. However, I'd be concerned to an extent about overall engine/turbo life over the long term when you up the boost from 8.5psi to 12+psi.

On the other hand, I'd love to see a twin-turbocharged version of the M3 engine...
