Speaking of religion threads.. this one's a marriage thread

I've been thinking about this for a while..
A lot of people still get married for symbolic reasons and religious reasons...
Yet, the government screws them over on taxes.

Is there a way to become "married in the eyes of God" but not married in the eyes of the state? (not legally married?) I was thinking I could become an ordained minister (online, process takes about 10 minutes to be a legally ordained minister) and perform non-legally bound religious ceremonies for people. (for a $100 donation to my church, which, of course, would pay me a salary)

well isnt it if you live with teh same person for liek 7 years you are considered married or some sh!t like that

He's referring to Common-Law Marriage; and it depends on what state you're talking about. Some have very strict and binding laws and some don't recognize it.

BTW, marriage and religion really shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence since they have ZERO to do w/each other.

Marriage = people that want to share themselves and their lives with someone else
Religion = people that are too insecure to share themselves w/someone else, so they hide behind a book w/a false sense of beliefs.

Ah! It's just these "religious threads"; I'm drawn like a moth to a flame. 😱 I just don't understand those people.

And it's not for lack of exposure. I was raised Italian Catholic; gotta be the most subversive, guilt-ridden, ritualistic, cult-like, bullsh1t-filled, religion there is! Makes Southern Baptist Rattlesnake Worshipers look tame!

Anyway, I have long held the belief that organized religion is for weak people. That goes double for those that meet and marry "thru the pastor" or "the church." If you are of those religions that are a bit foreign to me such as Hindu or Buddhism and you must sacrifice a small goatl with a virgin lizard around it's neck in order to properly marry in the eyes of the God Vishnu, then you are doubly weird. Sorry....

Too bad your only experience with Christianity comes through Catholicism or "Satan worship" as it's known in many circles. Please don't take offense at this, I'm not calling you a Satan worshipper, rather that Catholicism is deceptive and very few Catholics know what it's truly about.

Catholiscism is truly the Devil's tool. I went to 13 years of Catholic school. . I went to Our Lady of the Bleeding Knuckles School. Sister Mary Viscious was the principal. What a load of hooey.

Did you know that the Catholic Church is STILL the single largest land owner in the WORLD? That's almost a 2,000-year record, BTW. Pope John Paul is sitting on the single largest fortune in the history of mankind.

Makes the British Empire seem small-time.

Anyway, religion sucks, period. I have no need in my life for a crutch. My family, friends and interests are my strength.

I was pondering just the opposite recently. Actually more along the lines of same-sex marriages. I'm not too well informed, but I'll just make an assumption that same-sex marriages are a big no no in Christianity. But since marriages provide benefits beyond religion such as tax return and the such, why should the rules of marriage be restricted to one religious view? Kinda like the mixing of politics and religion.
