I thought the same when I saw it as a child...then I saw it again as an adult.

Gem!?!?!?!????

It was a schmaltzy piece of overly sentimental tripe. The ending of It's a Wonderful Life was less cloying.

It wasn't that great of a love story.
I think Spielbergs greatest movie was 'Empire of the sun'. I loved that flick.

Yes, definitely one of his other underrated gems.

It's a Wonderful Life is an absolute masterpiece, and one of the most beloved movies of all time. How can you say that?

What a piece of celluloid crap!

"Always" marked Spielberg's fall from grace - when he thought he'd progressed from an Action/Adventure director to more Highbrow Drama Demiurge.... "schmaltzy piece of overly sentimental tripe" is just about right as a description (and, BTW, I DID like "It's a Wonderful Life"!)

It was one of the old "Accept fate and let it go" films that Hollywood is so proud of... this and "Cocoon Part 2" are some of the most shameless examples...

Not to mention that Brad Johnson can't act, he has ZERO charisma, and Hepburn was horribly misused.

This was probably another one of the "same-subject" movies produced by competing studios (like "Volcano" vs. "Dante's peak") - for "Always" (1989), the vastly superior doppelganger was "Ghost" (1990)...
