Here's what I've noticed. I buy alot of DVD+R's and find the best price (usually through the weekly ads) and buy what is the best brand for the cost. Tonight I went to Office Depot to get a 50 pack of DVD+Rs. Memorex was the only brand of DVD+Rs that were on sale. ($12.99 per 50, if anyone is interested)
I went a few days ago and they had one spindle left on the shelf, and purchased it. I wanted more, but didn't have time to track down someone who isn't retarded to find them in the back. Fast forward to tonight and they had one on the shelf. Just one. Coincidence?
I decided to do a little test of my own. OD is about a block away from Wal Mart, so I went to Wal Mart after checking out at OD and did my grocery shopping (took about an hour). I then returned to OD, went back to the DVD+R section, and lo and behold, they had ONE spindle on the shelf. Three times in a row? Not so much of a coincidence anymore.
I understand the reasoning. They want you to come in by having them on sale, but it's like rationing one per customer and hoping they will buy something else instead of coming in to buy them in bulk and leaving.
I've noticed this at most tech retailers such as Staples, CompUSA, Curcuit City, Best Buy, etc. Best Buy usually hides their Sony DVD+Rs behind the Dynex crap discs when the Sonys are on sale. Circuit City usually doesn't label their items correctly, which is frustrating.
If I need more than one (if there's only one on the shelf) I just get a salesperson to get me some out of the back. If they stare at the shelf and say "we must be out", I tell them I checked stock online and there were plenty. They usually pause and then go pull out a box of them from the back and give me however many I want.
I shall put away my tinfoil hat now and go back to watching the telly.
Cliffs:
Went to OD to buy DVD+Rs on sale a few days ago.
They had one spindle on the shelf and I bought it.
Went back to OD for more DVD+Rs today.
They had one spindle on the shelf and I bought it.
Left for an hour, came back, and they had one on the shelf.
Bought it.
Created a conspiracy theory.
Posted said theory.
Hoped others have noticed this practice.
