They're probably crap 😛 I've heard several systems with the same trendy "micro drivers" and they're invariably unimpressive. They emphasize the worst aspect of the 2.1 design, that is the low-frequency crossover to the "sub"woofer. Little things cant generate any useful output below like 250hz, so that range gets taken up by the subwoofer on the floor and smears your lower midrange response all to hell, and the little drivers have a lot of trouble generating any real dynamics. The frequency response is probably terribly uneven as well. I'm sure it will have plenty of boom and sizzle, if that's what you're into, but for listening to most music you'd be better off with a design thats less trendy and more practical.
In conclusion? Spend the extra 8 bucks and get Altec's more conventional and far superior model, the 621s, $108 at newegg.
Actually, when it comes to these new-wave, speaker systems that uses mini-driver satellites, I like the Creative I-trigue (what a crap name) best out of all of them. I had a chance to wring out a set and compare them to the various offerings from AL. I was really surprised at the level of sound quality. You still can't rock the house with them, but then again you can't do that with the others as well.
