Speakers with remote hiss

All speaker systems that I have tried with remotes have a constant white noise no matter how loud you turn them up. This lead me to believe that the amplifier was constantly at full volume. Is this the case? (B4 you say of course amps always are at full volume, that is not true, by lowering the voltage the amplification is lowered).

Anyway I wanted to get a good set of speakers but I hate white noise, I want them to be silent when the volume is low. I was going to try and modify the voltage of my midilands 7100 plus's but I was worried I would destroy them. I was going to put a rheostat on the input line, to simply lower the imput voltage. Anyway thanks for any info and this.

if it happens at any volume, this is noise inherent in the power amp. changing the input will not affect the noise. rheostats don't change voltage anyway, they change resistance, measured in ohms. you could damage the outputting device by using one of these, although on a little line-out, it might survive. but even if it did, it wouldn't solve your problem. my suggestion is get new speakers, and this time, listen to them first. 😉
