I use Ventrilo when I game, but would buy nice speakers if when I used my push-to-talk it'd mute my speaker output.. is this possible somehow and do any of you do this?

Thanks!

Why would you want to do that anyway?
I use ventrilo all the time and have 2 JBLs as my output.... I dont get what you're trying to do or avoid.

If I didn't want to wear my headphones, but wanted to activate my mic without having the blaring music from my speakers, or rocket blasts drown out my voice and annoy my comrade.

If you have ventrilo running and use speakers you are extremely prone to loopback. All that has to happen is for you to hit your push to talk key at the same time someone else goes to talk. You will broadcast their message back so everyone will hear it twice, if that person has speakers it will then double over a number of times until everyone screams. The more people using speakers, the greater the odds of this happening becomes and don't even think of using mic sensitivity in place of push to talk since it is basically out of the question.

And per your quote, YOU wouldn't necessarily have the echo, every other person would which is why people don't notice their setups suck until a number of people yell at them for it.

Or imagine MP3s blaring at a high volume level in the background? It just doesn't work well, but something that muted speaker output while I hit the transmit button in Vent would work nicely.

The echo of your voice can be fixed by muting the microphone output so it doesn't come out your speakers, but those people still hear your blaring game explosions and music if the volume's up.

I love it when someone tries to say something serious on vent, only to have some random background noise grab the attention of all listeners.

"Are you listening to porn music?"

"Are you playing WoW in the bathtub?"

"Why is there a gorilla in your appartment?"

Good times.

I'd love to have an answer to this question myself. I don't know why the standard audio path seems to send mic input to the mixer out channel, or how to disable it. In my case I use Skype w/a headset all day for work, and have to carefully adjust the mic gain so I don't hear myself echoing in my headset speakers. There ought to be a way to mute this path, but I haven't figured out how.
