Speakers static pop when compressor turns on

I recently upgraded my speaker wire from Arista 16-gauge to Monoprice 12-gauge and since then every time the refrigerator compressor comes on I hear a static-y "pop" on the speakers. when the amp is on. I did not hear this with the old cabling.

Any suggestions for further investigation or how to alleviate the issue? While it is an annoying interruption, I am most concerned about damaging my equipment. Would a line conditioner (http://www.apc.com/products/family/?id=67) help?

This is an apartment so I cannot just run a new, dedicated circuit.

Amp: NAD C375DAC
Speakers: Wharfedale Diamond 8.2

Yeah I would go with the line conditioner. I can hear the fridges in my home, even though some are on a different circuit(i have a few fridges through out the house). I generally get the noise in my subwoofer not my speakers though.

And on a side note, how do you like the diamond 8.2's? I've got some Wharfedale Evo2-10's and I absolutely love them.

Speaker wire shouldn't be picking up any noise, I think it's a coincidence that you just happened to notice the noise the same time you changed the cables. Are you sure this didn't happen with the old cables or you just weren't listening for it? If it really didn't happen with the old cables the simplest solution would be to go back to the old cables.

Line conditioner. Heck my lights will flicker slightly if something that uses a lot of power comes on, despite different circuit..not our fridge but like my A/C when it kicks on.

Yes, I think it is coincidental - probably paying a bit more attention since I made the change.
Haven't switched back to the old cables yet - I reused the banana plugs so would need to reterminate - but will do so.

I've been quite happy with the diamonds - especially given the price. They didn't really come into their own until I upgraded my amp. Now I rarely bother with my subwoofer (Wharfedale PowerCube).
