i've searched through the forums and read through the information regarding speakers, but im still undecided between these three.

z-5300

megaworks 5.1

gigaworks 5.1

obviously, i'm lookin for a 5.1, i think the pricing is 140, 200, 320. i assume their quality is in accordance to price.

anyone listen to 2 or more of these speakers can offer some recommendations? i 'can' afford the gigaworks if i had to, but 200 dollars extra isnt exactly small change. so, i guess i'm lookin for the best price/quality ratio. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

ps. i have a sb audigy2 zs sound card, and i do gaming/music about 50/50 so a good well rounded set of speakers is good..

i have not heard any of these sets of speakers but have you considered buying logitech z-680s or klipsch 5.1 promedias. Both are thx certified and are proven with rave reviews for each. Although if you opt for either the logitech or klipsch you will find yourself in yet another klipsch/ logitech arguement. But at the end you will be satisfied with your decision. But i would highly recommend getting the z-680s for the best bang for the buck, nothig is its price range i believe around sub 200 can touch it.

The only real high end players in this field are the gigaworks and the klipsch PM ultras. You might be happy w/ the logitech's though, it depends on how important music quality and fidelity is to you. The gigaworks are absolutely the most musical 5.1 multimedia speakers you can buy. THey're more musical than even the Klipsch. But if you're mainly going to be watching movies and playing games, then consider the Logitechs. I'd say the Klipsch are a good combination of thumping bass and power, and refinement, good for music and games\movies.

I have the Gigaworks, btw. I think they're underpowered for DVD movies personally, and would probably buy the Klipsch PM Ultras if I had to make the decision again.

i went to the store to listen to z-5300 and z-680, they didnt sound so great to me, maybe it was the way it was set up, the z-680 dosnt even sound as good as the old altec lansing 641s that i had. also i heard the z-680 had speaker noise, and the amp gets blown easily. anyone have details about megaworks vs gigaworks vs kplitch pm?

I didn't really care for my Z680s. The bass was way overpronounced and the satellites just didn't sound as warm as my old Cambridge Soundworks speakers.

I'd go with the Megaworks if you're on a budget.

This guy's got the right idea. Megaworks if you're on a budget but want good sound, Klipsch 5.1 Ultras if you watch a lot of movies and play a lot of games, and Gigaworks for music with some games and movies.

Really though, the more that I think about it, if you're using gigaworks mainly for music, you've probably made a bad choice... Because for the $400 gigaworks cost, you could get a very nice 2.1 setup that would trounce the Gigaworks in stereo recordings. I'd say they're a good all around system though, just like the Klipsch.

For the record, I have Gigaworks, and use them 30% for Music 30% for Games and 30% for DVDs. That extra 9% you ask? I rub my bottom with them. 😉
