Speakers + Sony Hi-Fi mini system

I have a Sony CM-NE3 that I currently have hooked up to my computer in my office at home. It sounds pretty decent, but I am wondering if the speakers themselves are crap. If I upgraded the speakers to better bookshelf speakers, would the sound be better on them (something like decent 3 way speakers).

This is the product:

I apologize for putting this in Off-Topic so if I need to move it, please tell me where.

No it won't be a good idea to upgrade the speakers.

They are only getting about 15w according to the specs

Well, what if I wanted to change the speakers due to color as well? I had the blonde oak look and my other stuff is silver and black. Doesn't go well together. Then what?

A good pair of bookshelf speakers like Polk RTI A1 ($300/pair list) might not play much louder with only a 15 watt per channel amp, but you'll get much better midrange and more bass.

You could start with getting the speakers, then upgrade to a real receiver later.

(Putting money into the speakers is more important than the receiver at the low end, $300 speakers and $100 receiver will sound much better than $200 + $200. That said, if $300 is outrageous to you then you could get Polk RM150 at $100 or Monitor 40 at $240.)
