Speakers or Headphones?

Headphones will give you superior music quality and detail than speakers for equivalent price.

However if you listen to a lot of Surround stuff, speakers no doubt.

speakers are good for listening for extended time, sheer noise thrill, casual listening or with other people. headphones are good for when quiet is necessary, personal isolation from distractions, and for gaming sound detail.

Its not that simple.

Speakers provide realistic impact and weight. A soundstage in which instruments can be placed just as if they were in real life. It provides a reasonable amount of detail and accuracy of course depending on the cost of your speakers.

Headphones provide a sound that is much smaller, lacks weight, impact, and can not create a realistic image. However headphones can provide detail and accuracy that speakers of a similar price can not. Also for the obvious reasons such as headphones are portable.

Im going to go with speakers though. Headphones have always sounded to me like what they are....headphones, small cans over your ears. They cannot reproduce a realistic audio experience like speakers can

Depends on the music, but in general I prepare speakers.

Female vocals I like to use headphones because it sounds crazily intimate.

i prefer speakers but i cannot use speakers due to living conditions. 🙁

nothing like being put right into the middle of a concert, no way headphones can do that. higher end headphones have imaging but it's not too realistic.

Headphones can't replace speakers and vice versa. Headphones are indeed more details, but then again you miss the vibrations and the "it's alive" feeling you get from a good set of speakers.

Im a speaker man myself, mostly beause the the best set of headphones I've got are a cheap pair of Sonys that hurt my ears if I wear them too long.

speakers

but headphones are damn nice, however i dont like haveing tro always sit near the stereo or have something on my head all the time

depends.

for compatitive gaming that requires specific location of your enemy, headphones.

for everything else = speakers.
