Speakers on the new MBPs

Hey everyone! I'm going to be purchasing a new MBP this week and have narrowed down my selection to either the new 13" MBP or the 15" MBP. Specs wise, I'd be fine with the 13" as I game exclusively on my homebuilt desktop. I have a 13" MacBook right now and although it's a little dated, the size works well for me as it's a bit lighter than the other models and fits nicely in the messenger bag I wear when riding to and from class. That said, the 15" would also fit, it's just another pound to carry around.

The only difference I noticed when I checked them out in person yesterday was that the 15" has the speaker grills on each side of the keyboard and the 13" must have the speaker under the keyboard like my current MacBook does. I'm wondering if the 15" will have more volume than the 13" and possibly even be a bit louder. Can anyone chime in with experiences on this question? Thanks everyone!

I haven't compared them, but I do have a white MacBook and a 13" MBP. The MBP is MUCH louder than the MacBook, and will represent a nice upgrade in that respect. I have no idea how the 15" machine compares, though.

I suppose I'll just have to throw a few high bitrate MP3s on a flash drive and see for myself!

Thanks for chiming in!

On a semi related note, the 13" are using the LED backlit screens now as well, correct?

Also, I remember some hubbub about the screens being of slightly poorer quality than the 15 and 17 inch screens. Any truth to this? I forgot to look yesterday.

The 13" MacBook Pro (so the one with the 7 hour battery, SD card slot and firewire, the only 13" aluminum one you can buy new) has the same screen as the MacBook Air, which gives it drastically improved viewing angles, as well as a little bit better color reproduction over the 13" MacBook and 13" Unibody MacBook.

It is LED backlit.

Great! Thanks TheStu!

I think I'm pretty well set on the 13". I already have a 13" case that hooks into my messenger bag so it'd be nice to not need to replace that.

It's absolutely gorgeous. The audio was pretty much the same between the two, with the 15" having just a bit more treble. That alone wasn't enough for me to give up the smaller, lighter 13". 2.53 Ghz, 4 GB RAM. Wow. Sorry MacBook...

That is all.
