Speakers in Parallel

I have 2 sets of speakers, 100w 8hm and 60w 8ohm.

If I hook them up in parallel will everything be allright?

My reciever is a KLH 100w x6 6.1

your receiver will need to be able to handle a 4 ohm load, since hooking those up in parallel will present a 4 ohm load to the amp. don't you have two sets of speaker outputs on the receiver, though?

My receiver only has one set of outputs...

the 100w speakers have two sets of inputs.

What hooking them up in seriers?

ie. Reciever--------->100w-------->60w

?

That will work. Positive lead to Positive Lead.... Negative to negative....
The differences in sensitivity / efficiency of the individual speakers may cause them to be of different volumes or SPL. (sound pressure level)


Output + ...............
- ............... Both speaker leads can come together at one point and tie to the output leads. Just keep the polarity constant.

If you get a speaker selector switch say from partsexpress, you can properly balance the impeadance presented to the amp and add and select speakers with no fear of dropping the load so low as to kill the amp.

My previous answer was based on STEREO x 2 pair of speakers configuration only. Not any sort of surround or multi-output config.

That is how we have it setup for now, we listen to more music then we watch DVD's so we would rather have more power on the fronts then use surrounds.

You are teh nuts! Why in the world would you want to do such a thing? In a surround config on top of it.

I am somewhat 😕 here. You have a surround receiver, so why don't you just use stereo mode? You won't get more "power" by adding more speakers. Just shut off the others.

I use stereo mode, instead of using 2 speakers for rear channels, I am using them for fronts too.
