Speakers, how big do I need?

I was just wondering if there was a formula on selecting speakers. Like how much wattage for how many sq. feet? Anyone know if it exists?

how about efficiency, cone/magnet materials, shape, cabinet materials/design etc. its not easy.

depends on what the speakers are for. in your car? home theater? Band setup?

its not the size that matters it what you drive them with

eg Linn Kan speakers these are only the size of shoe boxes but need a 250 watt rms amp the drive them

Just get a good pair of headphones and be done with it.

Get big ones. People really like it when a car with a lot of bass drives down the road. THey shout "Look how cool he is!"

Headphones won't properly reproduce stereo unless it is a binaural recording.
