Speakers! Going crazy making this choice!

Ack! This is so difficult. I need a set of computer speaker for mostly music (my computer's my stereo system, basically) and was thinking about going with the Logitech z-2300s. The reviews are great but they're rather pricey. I just moved into a new place and I'm trying to be responsible, so the $19 AR creative labs t3000 look tempting. But should I spend the extra money ($149 locally for the logitechs) for the long term good or get the $19 t3000s to save money? This is tough!

Not really that tough. You usually get what you pay for, and it depends on what you want. Your ears are the guide. If you care about good sound, then audition both from the same source and compare - then decide where the value is.

I would spend $99 on a set of Klipsch Promedia 2.0s Ultras, unless you need a subwoofer. For a lot of hardcore rap and first person shooters, I could see the need for a subwoofer (assuming that was like 90% of your computer usage). Otherwise, I'd stick to a solid 2.0 setup like the PM 2.0 Ultras which will have far more midrange and high end definition. Personally I find the Z-2300s overpriced (unless you are paying for the smaller size) given the fact that the Z-560s can be had for $70 to $100 online. It's a 4.1 setup with more power, and bigger speakers.

$19 speakers will sound like $19 headphones...not particularly impressive. Actually...they will probably sound worse than $19 headphones.

You get a lot more bang for your buck from headphones.

A decent set of headphones ($50 or something from a good brand) would be pretty impossible to beat for sound quality in this pricerange for example.
