hi,
Planning to change my ancient cambridge FPS1000 for a 5.1 set...narrowed it down to 2: Logitech's Z680 & Megaworks 550.Klipsch is out of question, too expensive
Using the Soundstorm on my Asus A7N8X deluxe mobo so which of these speakers will fully utilise it?
I use the com for almost everything...gaming,music,dvds.So any comments?

thanks

I have the Z-680s and -love- them. Use the digital out from the Asus to connect to it, and the sound is very nice. Gets full 5.1 sound in anything that supports, etc., etc. DVDs sound good as well.

Got the Z-680s from Dell and I love 'em (understatement). I have them hooked up to my NF2 Soundstorm board (Abit NF7-S) via direct analog and optical outputs and I replaced the speaker cables with 16 gauge and put banana plugs on the four satellites (center uses spring terminal). Luckily I got the new 1.1.2 control pod from Dell, and there is no hiss to complain about. Awesome.

The longest are 15ft. and there are two of them, two 10 footers and one 6 footer I think. But the beauty of it is that it uses standard zip cord wire :) They were more than adequate for my setup, but the increased surface area contact of the banana plugs and lowered resistence of the larger wire opened up the mids a bit and the top frequencies as well. The stock cables are fine though.

edit- whoops, just whipped out the manual and according to it the stock cables are 2x 6 footers and 3x 15 footers.

I have the Z-640's and love them. Plug them into my Asus A7N8X deluxe and get perfect sourround sound (best integrated sound there is). Best speakers for around $70.

Of course if i had more $$$ i would have gotten the Z-680's
