Speakers for Notebooks

I'm been eyeing the Creative Labs Inspire 3030 2.1 speakers; the box says it can be used for notebooks, but where does it connect to? My notebook doesn't have speakers line out like you'd see on a soundcard for desktops; my notebook only has a headphone jack - does the speaker plug into there?

Will using the headphone jack result in degraded sound quality versus plugging the speakers into a proper line out plug on a desktop soundcard?

And what do you guys think of the Inspire 3030 for $40? Recommendations for a sound system running for ~$50 and under?

No. I use Klipsch Promedia 2.1s with my Asus W3J and it only has a headphone jack (works wonderfully). Just make sure the master volume is not set for more than 50% (it's better to raise the volume on the speakers).

I don't know about good, cheap speakers. Someone else will have to provide some input in this arena.

I like my Logitech speakers.... x60? I can't remember what exactly. When I really want good sound though I switch over to my Grado Headphones. But most of my music is lossy since i have limited space, so the headphones lose their advantage.

Logitech V20 Speakers

I was selling mine until I opened them and used them. VERY nice USB speakers (no power cord needed) and comes with a nifty case if you travel.

A bit on the costy side, but I picked mine up for around $40 from some random online dealer.
