Speakers fixable?? JBL with hole in side..

hey my friend has a resale company that buys mad "returned items/damaged goods" palets... hes got a set of nasty jbl studio series s-38 speakers to sell me for 75$ BUT one of the speakers is fd... there is a 2x2 inch hole on the enclosure of one of the speakers... so I want to know if this IS fixable and if so how should i go about doing it??? anyinfo/help would be appreaciated

Never fixed a hole in an actual cabinet before.....try to go from the inside and put a piece of wood from the inside of the hole. On the outside, cover the hole bondo, then primer and paint away!

$75 is a sweet price for just one of them, if the other cant be fixed just use the good one as a center or something

AVSForum.com... these people will teach you how to make a speaker out of some boards, wires and drivers, let alone how to fix a hole in the cabinet

Whatever you use to fix the hole has to be as dense and solid as the rest of the cabinet. You could try making the hole into a regular shape (circle, rectangle, etc.) and epoxying a plug in place. High density particle board would be a good choice. That's what most commercial speaker boxes are made of.

It practically doesn't matter. You really just need to seal the hole. Easiest would probably be to cut a wood plug the approx size of the hole, then use fiberglass or something to seal it up. As long as the resulting patch is airtight, you'll be fine. The easiest way to do it would probably be to take out the woofer, and lay a fiberglass patch down from the inside. But don't stress out over this, as long as you do a "pretty good" job the speaker should be fine. It may not look pretty, though.
