Urban,

I have my PC hooked up to my Denon AVR-1700 receiver via an optical connection (AOpen AW744Pro soundcard) and some home-built reference quality bookshelfs. You can go even a lot higher quality than you have now. Go to a high-end audio store, you will instantly be hooked. I've been hooked since I was 15 (8 years ago now) and would never turn back. :) Audio is so fun because it's limitless and a great rewarding hobby.

DIY speakers were my latest endeavor and I plan to build 5 more of them and purchase a subwoofer from SVS Subwoofers in the near future. Over the weekend, I picked up a Denon AVR-3801 from a website and I will HOPEFULLY get it next week.

The possibilities go on from here, I have even more i want beyond this but those are my initial wants/desires.

Oh and by the way, if you knew how good sound could get (with a setup like that you obviously do) then what was the point of starting this thread? As if you didn't already know.

Oh, just wanted the world to know. I had some cool 5 dolla AMPLIFIED!! speakers that sounded like crap. These ones are such a improvement. Now, I need a better sound card!

Yes, I love my Altec Lansing ACS66i's that I got from that buy.com deal a while ago for like $20. They sound much better then my 4-year old 2-piece Altec Lansing set. I love shaking the house with the subwoofer :)

Welcome to the other side :D We have much more fun than before.. everything tastes better too ;)

Thing is, you dont' have to invest your retirement savings to get something decent. I'd highly recommend some Labtec 2454.

4 sattelite speakers, 1 monsterous woofer.

:D

Urban,

I really was never impressed with Creative's offerings, and while some people swear by them, most haven't heard what else is out there. For cheap alternatives, which I feel sounds a lot better than the Live! cards, the AOpen AW744Pro sound card from the link I've given you to computergate is probably the biggest audio bargain I know of for the PC. Very low noise card, sensaura 3D positioning for games, optical out, 4 speaker support. For $26 it's an unbelievable card and I can't recommend it enough. I've ordered 3 of these cards through computergate for myself, my girlfriend and a colleague and it's simply astounding for the price. I recommend it over a Live! any day!
