Speakers died...suggestions for new ones?

Sadly, my Z560s died on me today...stupid weather.

Anyways, now I'm in the market for some new speakers.

I'm thinking of the Altec 641s. I'd like some input on MidiLand S4 7100 plus and s4 8200 v2 though -- anyone here have 'em?

Klipsch 4.1s might be an option (if they have some decent sound).

I mainly use my PC for music and movies...light gaming....(which makes me want to turn away from the Klipsch...though I've only heard the original 4.1 set up...how's sound quality on 'em now?)

Thanks,

Darien

how much money do you have? the Cambridge SoundWorks MegaWorks 510D's are really good, and can be gotten online for about $260.

EMScomputing.com still has a special going on the 641's for $105 + free ground shipping. They have the z560's also for $122 if you want to get another set.

Based on all the reviews comparing the two, I decided to go for the 641's myself. The general consensus I've gathered is that 641's are not as loud as the z560's, but the clarity is better.

I like the Altec Lansing 251s. They're dirt cheap, too, like 70 bucks at Newegg. They're more than loud enough for me. ;)

BTW, is there a huge difference in 4.1 and 5.1? Does the center channel make a huge difference? (this is why I'm considering the MidiLand)

Tax and shipping are evil. I probably won't get the 510Ds.

I have $250 max (has to include tax and shipping).

klipsch 2.1 are the best 2.1 speakers i have ever heard. i am sure the 4.1 are one the same level.

as to the midiland sets you mentioned - i wouldn't bother. i have had the s4-8200 (3 dead speakers) and heard the 7100. the bass is overbearing, i was not happy with the reliability (and newegg recently stopped selling the 8200 because of frequent buyer returns based on failure)

long story short - my $110 klipsch 2.1 kick both of their behinds...

dew.

Odd. If you are primarily a non-gamer, you would probably lean towards the ProMedia 4.1 ... why shy away? In any case, you say your Z-560s died because of weather. So you liked them for what you were using them for, right? Why not just buy yourself another set of Z-560s??

I listened to some music on the 641s and the sound quality was better than the z-560s.

Cool, thanks for the input -- I never heard anything about this.

Consider the Boston BA7800s. They are available for $249 from Gateway.

3Dsoundsurge.com will have a review of them in the coming weeks.
