Speakers became distorted all of the sudden.

I have Klipsch 2.1 speakers on a Sound Blaster Audigy Platinum. I have the latest drivers, everything is connected fine, and I make sure the master output level isn't up at full volume. My speakers worked fine until yesterday when their output became more distorted. Some Mp3s are worse than others, but they soudned clear before. I checked all my settings and they seemed fine. I even went ahead and tried Creative Restore Defaults. If anyone knows why my speakers randomly started outputting more distorted sound all the time and what I can do to fix it, please let me know. Thanks!
 
Have you hooked the speakers into a stereo/walkman/etc to verify if they are working correctly independent of your computer? That will be the first step to isolate the problem.
 
conversely, plug some headphones into the soundcard to check it isn't that that's causing the sound distortion.
