Speakers and amp suggestions for a house party

I'm looking to buy an amp and a pair of speakers to have in my house next year. I want DJ type speakers that can go real loud with built in 12" or 15" sub. I have never looked into loud speakers before, so if anybody can let me know some possibilities and brands it would be greatly appreciated.

speakers are $300 a piece, and amps are about $600 a piece

plus the cords necessary to get it all running, and not only that but what are you going to use to control it all, a mixer, or what not..

i went with a powered setup - there are alot of reviews on these speaks so you can do a search and read up - but imo they're excellent (thrown many parties)

2 mackie srm450s and 2 mackie srs1500 (subs) - the speaks are 400 watts rms and the subs are 600 watts rms - but watts aren't everything, check out the other specs, these are probably one of the best active speakers out there.

mackie active series

oh yea, the srs1500 has been replaced by the srs1501 - same stuff different look.

yeah any decent speaker system will do the trick, I mean hell I've heard setups from people who bought their systems at radio shack and they aren't really that bad (dj around here works for radio shack, his setup sucks compared to mine, but he has decent speakers)

so far my yamaha's have done real well, I've done a couple of dances at our local community center which has a huge huge huge indoor pool and the room is very noisy and my speakers managed to do just fine at half volume on the amp...

any speakers that our decent for around $300 a pair? the rooms they will be in our not that large and I'm low on flow.
