Speaker Wire

I've been using Monoprice 14G speaker wire with my Bowers & Wilkins speakers for some time now. I was just curious if that fancy Audioquest speaker wire I see in Best Buy Magnolia would have any impact on quality of sound. Or is speaker wire just speaker wire?

although many "audiophiles" will suggest otherwise, wire of sufficient gauge and quality is no better or worse than excessive overkill wire gauge/ quality. If what you have is not getting hot during use, I would not replace until your situation requires it (i.e.- damage or additional length requirement)

hehe, that's a can of worms question. Best thing to do is try different cables and see if YOU can hear the difference. A lot depends on how revealing the rest of your system is. For most people it's probably not worth it buying expensive cables. I use BJC 10 gauge wire in both my 2ch & home theatre systems. Haven't found a reason to spend more money.

Isn't it Audioquest that Audioholics makes fun of constantly? Expensive speaker wires are just a way to extract money from the gullible.

Oh don't forget these http://www.reddragonaudio.com/products/cable-elevators when you install those expen$ive cables .......🙄🙄🙄

Read the description of these things. I'm almost embarrassed posting the link. OH my JChrist on that same website they have a $230 power cable..WOW.

Don't know if your much of a DIY'er but me and a couple of my buddies would make our own twisted cables. This is similar to what we did https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Xr1ZWaxfCg but we would use different colored wires. Sometimes multiple smaller gauge.. etc.

speaker wire is just speaker wire, have used 14 gauge on most myself.

I did buy the low oxygen copper wire myself last time I rerouted everything, but that was more for durability.

The price wasn't any different if you shop around, but the standard
Monoprice wire is about as good as you can get.

It's what the started out doing to begin with if I am not mistaken, just selling cable in bulk.

14 gauge will handle anything fine short of an outdoor concert I'd imagine, it
even seems a bit of over kill on my moderately large speakers in the house.

Decent 16 gauge would probably more than enough for most peoples applications, buying designer wires is not going to help speakers in any way.
