Speaker wire question.

Would there be any difference if I went to a lower gauge speaker cable than the ones I have? Specifically... would it put any less stress on my HK3490 if I went to 12 gauge copper (no aluminum) wire?

I have 16 gauge copper (no aluminum in the cable), a maximum of not more than 6.25 ft per 2 terminals (another is about 5.5 ft, and the last 2 are about 4 ft), and I have the volume on my HK3490 at -28 db about 5-6 hours a day or 35-42 hours every week (I never make it louder than -28). The receptacle it's plugged into is 22 years old although it has only been used a lot in 8 of the past 10 years. The house wall wiring is copper, but I don't remember how thick it is.

I'm using 8 ohms speakers.

I fell for buying monster cable when I bought the speakers... it was a long time ago when I was even more of a noob than I am now and didn't know about Blue Jeans Cable or monoprice. Monster Cable sucks for selling 16 gauge wire and charging at least 50% more than I would've paid to buy from BJC or monoprice.
