Speaker wire help

I need some factory-clamped wire to run from a Panasonic XR55 receiver to some Axiom M3s -- no more than 20ft is needed. It would be great if you could find something on Amazon.com as that's where I'll be ordering from.

I don't want overpriced cables -- just something decent for the hardware I listed.

Thanks

Any reason you need factory clamped? You can get 14 ga. wire at Home Depot/Lowes/Radio shack and some banana plugs to make your own cables in minutes.

I'm totally new to hifi audio equipment so I was hoping I could just get something that would "plug and play". How do banana plugs work?

From what I've pieced together, I should get a spool of wire and some banana plugs. And maybe some spades for the speaker ends. My only problem is stripping the wire -- would I have to buy an additional tool to do that? Right now, all I have here in my dorm is my swiss army knife.

So you decided to go with the axioms eh? Good choice dude.

You could use a knife it just won't be as easy...up to you

Either a knife...or wire strippers
Heh, alright... pain in the ass, but I guess not too big of a deal compared to installing processors without heatspreaders. I've been building computers for years, but never had to strip a cable 😛

Acoustic research 14 or 12Ga is just fine. I prefer bare wire but banana plugs are fine too.
You can get a decent wire stripper for $20 at home depot.

Speaker wire is speaker wire especially at your price range, Just get 14 gauge oxygen free copper. If you are really cheap u can buy a wire stripper and return it. I used a 10 cent razor to strip my first set of speaker wire. A wire stripper is easier but since you wont be doing this often it will take u longer to goto the store and buy wirestripper than to just cut the wire yourself.

Do not buy fancy "speaker wire". Plain ordinary 16 guage or 14 guage zip cord or lamp wire will do just fine. Wire guage is numbered backwards. 14 guage is thicker than 16 guage.
