Is there a certain song that is good for testing speakers? In terms of range and repsonse.
thanks,

Just do a search on your favorite P2P for "speaker test".

P2P got the THX intro, DTs intro etc etc. Also, a lot of good bass songs that go thru the entire range.

I gotta agree with Utterman, try pipe organ music. If you're looking to purchase a cd with phase testing, frequency response and a good 20Hz to 20KHz sweep........try your local stereo shop.

Just don't use mp3 files (especially mp3 versions of the THX, DTS, or DD sound). I'd get a hold of a DVD-audio disc and have at it.

If you're auditioning new speakers to buy, its good to listen to something you're really familiar with. Salesmen usually take out some really well recorded songs that have crystal clear highs and deep lows, and a lot of dynamic range. However, the music you listen to might not be like this. So, bring along an album that you listen to everyday and put on repeat. That way you'll know if something sounds right or wrong

One song I've heard that brings out flaws, distortion, and clipping is Outside the Glass - by The Black Heart Procession. Small band, but brought out the distortion in my z340s, muddy bass in yamaha 3-ways, and other flaws. It has moog synth far a bass effect and voice modulating (right term?). Another would be Nectars of Eden by Ebony tears. The songs phases through celtic music and hard rock, Really showing off flaws or perfection in treble and huge range. It really shows off tonal seperation in good speakers, bad ones turn it into a tidal wave of distorted guitar. Those are my suggestions. Happy hunting 😀.
