Speaker system for my room.....

I've been out of the whole speaker world for like 4-5 years now, I was just wondering if you guys had like $800 or so to spend on a sound system for your rooms what would you get?

I was looking at some JBL floor standing speakers.... well specifically these:

paired up with a HK amp or Denon amp.

What would you guys suggest?

How would you characterize their sound? I was thinking about them a while ago. All I know is that they look amazing given the price.

Agreed. The x-ls would no doubt be a better choice than the JBLs. I'd personally choose to go with a pair of active monitors however, something like the Yorkville YSM1p within that price range.

I just spent $750 on a system for my parents last weekend 😛

I found a good deal through Craigslist. You might want to check out some used options if that appeals to you at all. Audiogon, Videogon, ebay, AV123's used area, AVSforum's classifieds, etc.

I got

And an Onkyo 602 to power them

People getting upgraditis is nice if you don't mind their second hand stuff.

Had I not gotten something like this, I probably would have gotten in on the AV123 X-Series stuff for their system.

If you're just doing 2.1 on that $800 budget though, you could potentially get some nicer speakers, or at least there are more options for you.

I've got a pair of the rosewood x-ls speakers driven by an HK AVR 335 and think they're probably the best deal for the price range that you can get. I'd say that if you compared them to local stores, you'd have to spend $400-$450 to get something to compete with these.
